Opinion Piece is a new series I’ll be working on, y’all.
The opinions in these works are my own, and I would ask that you respect my freedom and liberty of speech as I would respect yours.
I am not quiet about how big of a Jonathan Majors fan I am.
I am enamored and in awe of his artistry and passion for honing his skill.
That does in no way deny the reality of the present situation.
Abuse and violence have no space in this world.
However, without the full story, and during a world so quick to judge and put someone under a microscope for their actions, I would be slow and unlikely to pass judgment.
First off, who am I or any of us to judge?
I will leave that to law enforcement and the justice system, as flawed as they might be.
Secondly, I take zero pride in saying this, but I was the abuser.
I was violent.
I did hurt people.
I did leave marks and bruises.
That is now and will never again be who I choose to be, but who am I to weigh that judgment against a man whose personal life we have no idea about?
It broke my heart to read the developments, but it has also become an exercise in my ability to separate the artist from the art.
It has been a lifelong challenge of mine, but I find myself growing in my understanding of the layered complexities of art every day.
I can appreciate a piece and support the cast and crew, from the PA to the director, without using it as a tool to elevate that particular actor but as an appreciator and perpetrator of art, I do not seek to pretend like artists are perfect.
We are broken.
And imperfect.
Like every other human being.
And that’s what makes human art so special, awe-inspiring, and wondrous.
