I say this to every guest that walks into our Regeneration Show at the

Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

Bert Williams crawled so that Hattie McDaniel could walk so that Sydney Poitier could sprint so that Jonathan Majors could run.

And after seeing him as Kang The Conquerer, Diamond Dame Anderson, and Jessie Brown, this statement resonates and is reverberated with authority.

He is the first actor who is a person of color that I consider someone I aspire to and am consistently inspired by.

I wasn’t truly exposed to a lot of actors of color growing up so this means so much to me.
