Freedom.
It just so happened that this post lined up with my homeland’s Independence Day. It’s awesome how that worked out.
भारत माता की जय
I relinquish the desire to be something for someone else.
I’m tired of it.
And it is not required of me.
I am simply who I am.
I am an Indian.
I am an American.
I am brown.
I am proud.
I am thankful.
I am kind.
I am free.
I’ve ripped away the chains that held me.
I have released the weights that dragged my heart into despair.
I bow in humble adoration of my King and my Savior.
Look at me however you want.
Believe what you want to believe about me.
Create your assumptions.
Fuel your prejudices. Or choose.
Choose to believe that I am who I am.
Who I have chosen to be.
Who I live out every single day.
Or don’t.
I’m tired and have no more energy or patience to convince you.
I am who I am. I am who I chose to be.
And I am damn proud of that man and the legacy of love I am creating.
I am a result of the fights and battles that those that came before me fought.
I am a result of their sacrifices, their victories, and their mistakes.
And I stand before you as I am. Not as who you want me to be.
