Decoded: Rockstar Games Presents Red Dead Redemption 2
This game is a Masterpiece.
Plain and simple.
Every moment is a heartbeat that sways beautifully from gentle lull to chaotic highs and then back down in one of the masterful tellings of a man's life and death in the history of driven storytelling.
Arthur's journey ebbs and flows with the slow rise of gentle mountain to the eventual cliff ends and jagged pieces that cut and scar him, leading him to his eventual end.
Despite the desire to pursue the low honor path every time I play this game, there is an unrelenting call to step into the man Arthur Morgan can be and set in stone a legacy that will never fade away.
The depth of thought and the level of intentional world building that accompanies this gorgeous sandbox only serves to elevate the tiny nuances that give this game an almost embossed feeling along the threads of it's giant and gorgeous tapestry.
Rockstar Games has become renowned for their perfectionism tendencies and stand head and shoulders above any other open-world game builders that have come before or will come after.
Every element of this game has unlimited potential and not only is that potential tapped into but it is elevated beyond what it could be into the realm of what gamers dream of.
The story is unmatched in it's pacing and really implores each player to step into the world they have built while embracing the cultural context of the time.
I am in awe of the way they embraced the challenge of addressing the trope of "The Cowboys and The Indians" and brought a much needed reframing to the realities of that moment in time to a group of people that came for the guns and cowboy appeal. It was one of the boldest and most important threads of this brilliant storyline and brought some much needed seeds of education for the realities of the injustices faced by the original owners of this land: The Native American Community.
This game's brilliance is only matched by it's braveness to tell a story that could have been poorly received with tact, dedication and an unrelenting desire to craft a world and a cast of characters that will go down in gaming history as the greatest of all time.
Yours Faithfully,
Sam Qavah John.
