This series struck so many chords in my heart and soul.
It reminded me of the reverence and power that food carries and the way it has evolved from its beautiful, delicate, and thoughtful beginnings to its mass manufactured present state of being.
However, like a circle, this series highlights the unsung heroes and champions of the foods they address from the wondrous banana to the glorious rice grain to coffee.
It heightened my respect and understanding of these beautiful ingredients to truly step back and understand their origin stories, the power they hold, the conflicts that have ensued over the human desire for control of said power, and the majestic gifts of God and nature that they are to each and every one of us.
Each episode gives us an inside look into the ingredients, the people that champion them, and their eventual uses. Having been invited into the lives of each of these peoples lives made me approach food with a greater reverence, respect, and thankfulness.
The show utilizes thoughtful shot work and guides us through each stage of what can only be described as the magic and wonder of nature and its gifts.
I was enraptured from start to finish and given the tools to appreciate and develop my understanding of food and its behavior. There is no show that compares to this one in its ability to let the food shine... let it be the star and that is where Apple triumphs in this work.
I cannot it recommend it highly enough!
No meal will ever be the same again.
Yours faithfully,
Qavah.
