Art Thoughts: Ted Lasso
This show is a testament to the creativity that can be found in the art of the character arc. Every single character is allowed room to breathe and writing that elevates everything they do with frequent references to lines being of paramount impact to each episode of the show.
Everything about the show is done with a sense of deliberation and intentionality.
I can't believe how invested I was in every character and every episode that was developed.
Season 1 is undoubtedly my favorite with an emphasis given to not only developing the characters but also allowing us to sit in and with the beats being developed and the overall story being crafted.
The thing I love the most about this show, however was how it made me see more of who I am.
The masking positivity of Ted. The anger and internal belief of not deserving good things in this life of Roy. The pain and the attitude that creates with Jamie and the inability to see oneself beyond the scope of others of Nate.
This show crafts a wondrous exploration of the human experience through the lens of a underdog football team and allows room for me to step back and view it as a story about people for people that doesn't depend as much as is the norm these days on titles and labels to generate mainstream attention.
Apple's bet on Ted Lasso paid off and then some as they create a show that speaks to people and allows them to reflect on their own internal struggles without kicking you in the face with it (Football is death... and it is also life)
