The Whale was a compelling, heart-wrenching, and deeply personal tale for me to watch and engage with.
I stopped seeing Brendan Fraser the moment Charlie appeared on screen and was touched, compelled, and consistently blown away by the heart of his performance and the film itself.
Thematically, this film resonated with me on so many levels, with asking for help, eating disorders, and the hope of one day being the best father I can be permeating throughout this story. There were moments in this film that hit home for me and resonated deeply with the man I once was.
Specifically, the occasion of his last binge.
The house of cards comes crashing down and the only thing to do is inflict more pain to somehow numb the pain that came before.
This film shook me to my core and restored the fire of hope in people.
I was rocked to my core and thankful to have engaged with this deeply relatable, core-shaking film.
